Mahale National Park

To the south of the famous Gombe stream, perched upon dramatic peaks of vibrant rainforest, is Mahale Mountains National Park. Like its northerly neighbor, Mahale boats one of the worlds few remaining wild populations of chimpanzees, and trekking through the mist to find and observe these amazing animals in their natural habitat is the parks main attraction. However, the chimps are by no means the only one-in-a-lifetime experience to be had in this beautiful ecosystem, from cultural tours with the local indigenous people to the secret mountain alcoves of their gods, to cleansing swims in Lake Tanganyika, this emerald jewel of the western circuit offers our guests an unprecedented glimpse into jungles of almost primordial nature.

The Hadzabe
The Hadzabe are not a Bantu race like the other peoples of Tanzania, but have more in common with the San Bushmen found in the Kalahari Desert of southern Africa, nearly 2000 miles away.
